BEK Developers is the brainchild of the Risman family, a cornerstone of commercial real estate for decades with a track record of developing, acquiring, and managing diverse property types across the Midwest and beyond.
The story began in 1964, when brothers Robert R. “Bob” Risman and William Risman founded Consolidated Management, Inc. (CMI). Over the years, CMI and its affiliates built and managed a wide portfolio—apartments, office buildings, retail spaces, and hotel properties—across Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Florida. After 50 years in business together, the families chose to divide CMI into two entities with distinct focuses: Burton Carol Management (BCM), led by William’s son Rob Risman, focused on apartment property management, while BEK Developers (BEK), led by Bob Risman, continued to develop and manage primarily commercial properties. The BEK name is a tribute to Bob’s family—Bob, Eleanore, and Kathy.
Today, BEK owns an interest in approximately 2,000 apartment units in Ohio and Michigan. BEK also owns and manages, in various capacities, more than 50 retail, office, industrial, and storage assets. With a growing portfolio across multiple asset classes, BEK continues to pursue opportunities that expand its footprint and strengthen its long-term presence in key markets.
Looking ahead, the next chapter of BEK is already taking shape with Bob’s grandsons, Scott and Joey, carrying the family’s legacy forward.
